Smoked mackerel tastes the same as purchased, but it is cooked without smoke: only from natural products. Mackerel, cooked at home, can be a great option not only for family dinner - it will look great on the festive table.


  • one peeled fresh medium-sized mackerel;
  • 5 tablespoons of salt;
  • 1 liter of water;
  • onion peel (how much is available).

Mackerel in onion husks in 3 minutes. Step by step recipe

  1. We choose a pan for cooking so that the fish fits completely, without creases (the ideal option is a ducklings, or any other oval-shaped pan).
  2. We put onion husks in the pan, add salt and pour cold water.
  3. We put the pan on the fire, bring the water and husk to a boil, give a little boil and put the fish.
  4. Cook the mackerel in onion husk for exactly 3 minutes.
  5. We immediately take it out and serve it. We decorate a serving dish with fish, slices of lemon, slices of tomatoes and onion rings.
  6. Ready mackerel is very beautiful, with a shiny skin, similar to smoked. But it tastes like ordinary boiled fish: tasty and slightly brackish.

But with the same ingredients you can pickle mackerel: and it will taste like smoked.

  • We take 1 kilogram of mackerel, carefully clean it from the insides, the black film and remove the head. We put it in a container so that there are no creases. Fish should not be completely thawed, dense
  • Pour 1 liter of water into the pan, add 5 tablespoons of salt, 2 tablespoons of sugar, a plate (top) of onion husks, 10 peas of coriander, 5 peas of allspice and 2 leaves of lavrushka. We fall asleep 3 tablespoons of black tea without additives (you can replace the tea in bags - 6 pieces). We mix everything well, put on fire and let it boil for 5-10 minutes.
  • Pour the mackerel with cooled strained marinade. We spread on top 2 heads of onions, cut into rings. We put on fish oppressed, put in the refrigerator for 3 days.

  • Two carcasses of mackerel (previously thawed in the refrigerator), cut into portioned slices. We shift to the container in which we will pickle (I do it in a mayonnaise bucket).
  • Pour with cooled brine and send to the refrigerator for a day (minimum).
  • Before serving, decorate with onion rings and pour with vegetable oil.
