Ingredients:

  • six slices of loaf;
  • bulb;
  • bottom of the egg;
  • one teaspoon of wheat flour;
  • hard cheese;
  • salt to taste.

Onion croutons. Step by step recipe

  1. The main ingredient in making croutons is onion. If you have a large onion, then take one, and if small - two. Peel the onion and finely chop with a knife.
  2. Take a small container (in my case this is a deep bowl), break an egg into it, add salt to taste and shake well with a fork.
  3. Grate hard cheese on a medium grater (you can grate on a coarse grater).
  4. In a chopped onion, grated cheese and flour, add a liquid egg. Mix well (I still really like it when you add a little black ground pepper).
  5. For the base we need six slices of loaf (I use the French loaf, and you can take any loaf or you can even take white bread).
  6. For each slice of the loaf, apply onion filling (I apply the fillings not very much, but also a lot).
  7. Put a frying pan with vegetable oil (you can use butter) on the stove and, when the oil is warm well, put the onion croutons in the pan. Fry the croutons on a small fire (over a small fire so that the filling is well-fried and not burnt) on both sides for a couple of minutes (until light, golden).

Tip: look, if you start to fry croutons and the filling disappears from the loaf, then add another egg. The amount of filling depends on how many hot sandwiches you want to cook. It is best to eat croutons hot.

Hot croutons can be crushed with chopped fresh herbs. I serve my onion sandwiches to my family with soup or chicken stock - incredibly tasty. These croutons can be served for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
