A great idea for a quick, tasty and beautiful dish - croutons in the oven. Slices of fragrant black bread or loaf, in a kind of batter of cheese, carrots and herbs - an incredibly original appetizer that will not leave anyone indifferent. Slices of bread, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, are ideal for hot sandwiches both for a family breakfast or dinner, or when guests are on the doorstep. Croutons with butter can be cooked very quickly in the oven: in just 5 minutes.
- 200 grams of black bread or loaf;
- 2 raw eggs;
- 30 grams of hard cheese;
- one raw carrot;
- a bunch of fresh herbs (dill or parsley);
- salt, spices - to taste;
- vegetable oil for greasing a baking sheet.
Croutons in the oven. Step by step recipe
- First, cut the loaf into portioned slices, and then into thin strips (approximately 1.5-2 centimeters wide). If you have brown bread, cut it into strips of the same width, but not along, but across the slice (so as not to be too long).
- Tip. Bread or a long loaf for croutons is always better to use stale (one that lay for a day, two or more), then it is denser and does not crumble so much.
- Grind carrots: it is better on a medium grater (but it is also possible on a large grater).
- Finely chop the greens (I prefer parsley, but you can use any one to your taste).
- Rub the cheese on a coarse grater into a separate bowl.
- Break two eggs into a bowl, beat with a fork a little (until smooth), add spices and salt, to taste.
- Mix everything, pour grated cheese, chopped greens and carrots into the egg mixture. Mix again (use a fork).
- We cover the baking sheet with baking or parchment paper, a little grease with vegetable oil.
- Dip each piece of brown bread well into the resulting mixture and spread on a baking sheet.
- We put the pan in a preheated oven to 200 degrees. Bake croutons in the oven for 10 minutes.
- I make these croutons from brown bread a little differently. I rub 100 grams of sausage or sausages on a coarse grater (I use the products according to the principle that is available in the refrigerator) and a small piece of cheese, you can wind down (30-50 grams). Finely chopping a small bunch of greenery (any that is). Mix with 2-3 fresh chicken eggs and a little mayonnaise. Salt and pepper to taste. Sliced (into quarters) stale slices of bread (the croutons of rye bread are tastier), dip in the mixture first with one side (if the mixture is thick, put it in a spoon and spread it). I spread it on the same side in a pan with preheated vegetable oil, and put egg-sausage mixture on top of the pieces. Fry croutons in oil on both sides until tender. It is better to eat them hot, but also cold - no less tasty.
